- Cotyledons very narrow lengthened ( >10 times longer than wide), rhomboidal, long-stalked.

- Leaf entire, elliptic to ovate, entire border (petiole longer than the blade).

- Height: 5-20 cm. Plant green-yellowish.

- Stem erect or ascending, branched, growing on the earth (or floating for plants growing in water), with adventitious roots near the base.

- Leaves somewhat fleshy, glabrous and opposite, obovate or oblong.

- Flowers white, on relatively long peduncle, in terminal or axillary inflorescence. Sepals 5 longitudinally joined in their lower part.

- Fruit enclosed in the persistent calyx, 3-seeded, seeds black dull, with tubers.

- Plant protected in Picardie (decree of 17/08/89).[France].

- Biological type: annual or perennial
