- Entire leaves, elliptical to ovate, with entire margin.

- Stem erect, palmate, only the upper part is slightly hairy.

- Leaves ovate, rhomboid, with plain margin, more or less glabrous. Inflorescence in long spike, elongated, spiciform, often branched mucronate, sharp and pointed. Perianth formed of 5 oblong pieces, lanceolate and finely acuminate.

- Fruit slightly wrinkled and dehiscent

- Triazine resistant populations exist in France, U.S.A., Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Spain, Canada.

- Risk of confusion with Amaranthus cruentus L., Amaranthus bouchonii Thell.

- Biological type: annual.
